Culture day is held annually on November 3rd to promote culture, the arts and academic endeavor. There are art exhibitions, parades and award ceremonies for distinguished artists and scholars. At primary schools, an art exhibitions by the students is held. In Hakone there is the Feudal Lords Parade, where people are dressed in traditional costumes and clothing of the Edo-era in Japan. The most important event is the Order of Culture Award Ceremony which is presided over by the Emperor. At this ceremony, awards are given out to people who have significantly advanced arts or culture of Japan.
